My Day at Hells Kitchen Farm Project

Located at 410 W 40th Street, Hells Kitchen Farm Project is a rooftop farm located in the Hell's Kitchen area of NYC. HKFP is entirely organized and managed by volunteers. While food pantries offer those in need a variety of foods, HKFP realized that there was a need for more healthy and natural food options. HKFP then formed to serve this need and they grow a variety of fresh produce that is distributed to those in need at local food pantries around the New York City area.

There is a 4000 square foot roof with 52 plant beds growing a variety of fresh produce from tomatoes to lettuce. To get involved, HKFP has open volunteer days ever Thursday and Saturday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Volunteers can engage in a variety of tasks, from helping plant to learning about HKFP.

During my time there, I had the opportunity to meet many of the amazing HKFP volunteers who told me all about the work they are doing and the positive impacts it is having in the NYC community. My visit was during the beginning of the season when they were getting their rooftop garden and all the crops set up so I also got to help with that. It was so rewarding (and fun!) to be able to give back to my community and I will definitely be back at HKFP soon!
