One Direction "Drag Me Down" Review

Lately, One Direction have been all over the news. From Zayn leaving the band to Louis announcing he is going to be a dad, the boys have been the headline on celebrity gossip websites for quite a while now.

This week the now four piece British boy band surprise released “Drag Me Down”, their first single from their upcoming album. The boys have a following of millions of teenagers worldwide, so it did not take longfor the song to crack the charts and end up #1 in over 50 countries.

“Drag Me Down” is a new sound for the band. Most notably they are missing a voice, that of former member, Zayn Malik. It is strange listening to the first song the band are releasing without Zayn. Liam, Louis, Niall and Harry have been saying that for album

The song’s lyrics are far more complex than previous releases. Metaphors such as I got a river for a soul, and baby, you’re a boat” are sung throughout the three minute song. The song is presumably about the boy’s love for their fans and all the support the fans have given to the band through the ups and downs.

The band’s newest single is worth giving a listen to. You can still recognize it is One Direction but their sound has shifted and it does indeed sound like ‘real’ music. I am excited to see what the band have in store for their fifth album after hinting at this new sound with “Drag Me Down”.
number five they will be leaving the boy band world of bubble gum pop and that it will be ‘real’ music. This sound is certainly refreshing after five years of their catchy pop music. In the band’s previous releases the instruments sound computer generated but you can hear real instruments in “Drag Me Down”.
