I Owned It!

On Saturday March 28, over 800 women traveled to Georgetown University for the second annual Own It Summit. Started by two Georgetown students who feel women leadership is an issue that is worth talking about, the summit works to bridge the gap between today's female leaders and college-aged women aspiring to become leaders. This year the key speakers included amazing women in leadership roles such as Orange Is The New Black star Danielle Brooks, CBS news correspondent Norah O'Donnell and editor Kara Swisher.

The conference was long (almost ten hours) but I felt that it was very worth while and I learned many valuable things from the inspirational women there. I think my favorite person I heard speak was blogger Carly Heitlinger of The College Prepster who gave me some amazing blogging advice that is totally going to help me. Carly spoke about everything from sponsored posts to how to gain a following. The advice Carly gave during her panel was invaluable and I appreciated it so much. I was also lucky enough to have a quick chat and get a picture with Carly, and I have to say that she is one of the most genuine people I have ever met!

Another highlight speaker for me was Danielle Brooks. I am guilty of binge watching Orange Is The New Black and Taystee is one of the funniest characters, so I was so excited to see Danielle! She  talked about following her passion in life and doing whatever she had to do to get there. While some people may turn down jobs if they do not align with their passion in life, Danielle took miscellaneous jobs such as being a typist and ultimately ended up fulfilling her passion and becoming a respected actress.

I had a ton of fun at this conference, got to meet some pretty awesome people and learned helpful tips on how to establish myself as a female leader. Keep an eye on Own It Summit for updates as they will be doing more country-wide conferences in the near future!
